When Is Sick Too Sick for School?
Alicia Perkins

As flu season is upon us, our district is committed to keeping our students, staff, and families healthy and learning. We want to share what we’re doing to promote wellness at school and provide some helpful tips families can use at home to prevent the spread of illness.

At School

We are taking proactive steps to keep our campuses clean and healthy:

  • Increased cleaning and sanitizing of high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, desks, and common areas.

  • Encouraging frequent handwashing and providing hand sanitizer in classrooms and offices.

  • Promoting healthy habits, like covering coughs/sneezes and keeping hands away from the face.

  • Monitoring illness and sending home students or staff who are exhibiting flu-like symptoms.

At Home

Families play a key role in helping keep everyone well. Here are some simple ways to protect your household and our school community:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow.

  • Stay home when sick. Please keep your child home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.

  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces like phones, tablets, and door handles.

  • Encourage rest, healthy eating, and hydration to strengthen immune systems.

When schools and families partner to promote wellness, we can minimize illness and keep our students learning and thriving all season long. Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a healthy and safe school environment!
